Warren streets closed Friday for Christmas in the Square

WARREN, Ohio -

The city of Warren is preparing for it's annual Christmas in the Square which will bring reindeer games, a tree lighting ceremony, and more. But drivers in the area should be wary of several closed roads. 

Road closures in the area will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and continue through 10 p.m. following the festivities. 

The following roads will be closed:

  • Mahoning Avenue, from High Street to Market Street
  • Market Street, from Mahoning Avenue to North Park Avenue
  • North Park Avenue, from Market Street to High Street
  • High Street, from North Park Avenue to Mahoning Avenue

Throughout the evening, there are a variety of family-friendly events planned. 

Christmas in the Square officially kicks-off at 5 p.m. with a Christmas Parade and Santa's arrival. Following the parade through the end of the celebration, party-goers will be able to take part in horse-drawn carriage rides. 

Horse-drawn wagons will pick up riders at two locations: High St. and W. Market.

Children ages 2-12 can pick up one red or green Santa Sack from any one of the designated Santa Sack Stops. 

Santa will also be around throughout the evening for family photos with Santa in the gazebo.  

A tree lighting is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. in Central Square with Mayor Doug Franklin and the Spirit of Christmas Winners. 

Performances are scheduled on the main stage near the courthouse throughout the evening. That schedule is as follows:

  • 5:45 Artistically U Dance
  • 6:00 WGH Madrigals
  • & New Tomorrows
  • 6:15 Storytelling/G. Matlock
  • 6:30 Cash Magic
  • 6:45 AD Puppetry
  • 7:00 Freestyle Karate
  • 7:15 Line Dancing with S & G
  • 7:30 Steppin Out Dance
  • 7:45 Gordon's Martial Arts

During the Christmas in the Square event, local businesses and nonprofits are expected to be out in full force. A map of all of the stops and activities can be found below. ?
