East Liverpool man struck by train

Posted: Updated:

The Columbiana County Coroner is investigating the death of an East Liverpool man who was run over by a train in that city.

According to a police report, the body of 45-year-old James Franklin was found on railroad tracks behind Robertson's Heating and Cooling on West Eighth Street just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The conductor of a Norfolk Southern train told investigators he spotted a male lying in the fetal position between the tracks.

The conductor said that the train was traveling at a low rate of speed and had its headlights dimmed because they were passing another train moving in the opposite direction.

The coroner's office has not yet released the results of its investigation.
