Sharon's E State Street project almost complete

SHARON, Pa. -

People traveling through Sharon over the past year have had to deal with some traffic headaches due to construction on State Street.

But now those headaches should be going away as PennDOT has announced the project is near its completion.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on areas of East State Street that have been closed to two-way traffic for over a year.
Many stretches of the street are now open to two-way traffic with the entire stretch expected to be open this Friday.

A PennDOT spokesperson says they've been battling the weather to get the project finished.
They replaced the road, the sidewalks, and curbs and even moved some utilities.

Word of the project's completion came as a relief to businesses located up and down the formerly busy street.

"Definitely hurt our business quite a bit," said Tim Rogers of Shenango Valley Meats. "If you're coming down East State Street you didn't even know what way you were allowed to go one day to the next. It was very confusing. It's just nice that it's over."

"Since the construction, our numbers have decreased a lot, but we believe with the road being open it will bring more people in," said Tyler Mitchell of Haitian Sensation Coffee.

The total cost of the project was $5.7 million.
